Upgrading a world-class tennis centre
Located in Auckland, New Zealand, the ASB Tennis Centre hosts the ASB Classic women's tournament and the Heineken Open for men every year. Originally built in the mid-1980s, the facility started undergoing a $25 million upgrade in conjunction with Next Generation Clubs in 2010.
With the redevelopment completed in 2012, the multi-level stadium construction project now houses world-class facilities, including rooftop tennis courts, spa and sauna rooms, conference rooms, a crèche, cafes, and an outdoor terrace dining area.
BITUTHENE® 5000 is the ideal waterproofing solution for concrete decks, such as tennis court surfaces, with excellent waterproofing properties and resistance to the elements.
Ensuring a fully waterproofed tennis court
The project involved a major revamp of all the tennis courts and the provision of new car parking and recreational facilities. More notably, rooftop tennis courts were built directly over the facility’s premier gymnasium. The stadium construction specifications called for a fully waterproofed slab underneath the tennis courts’ quality playing surfaces. The requirement was clear: No leaking or internal staining was to be tolerated.
Delivering BITUTHENE® 5000 waterproofing protection
The main stadium construction challenge was met with BITUTHENE® 5000 self-adhesive waterproofing membrane, which was specified and used under all new tennis courts, including the rooftop courts above the park.
A high-performance and robust waterproofing membrane, BITUTHENE® 5000 is extremely suitable under the asphalt surface of the tennis courts. Composed of high strength, heat-resistant mesh, this tough membrane is puncture-, moisture-, and water-resistant. Supplied in self-adhesive, cold-applied rolls, it is safe and very easy to apply.
BITUTHENE® 5000 proved to be the ideal waterproofing solution for the tennis court surfaces, due to its excellent waterproofing properties and resistance to the elements
