Air and Vapor Barriers FAQs
Perm-A-Barrier Liquid Questions
Where should Perm-A-Barrier Liquid be used?
Perm-A-Barrier Liquid is intended for use as an above-grade air and vapor barrier.
Can Perm-A-Barrier Liquid be applied to green or damp concrete?
Perm-A-Barrier Liquid Air & Vapor Barrier waterproofing membrane may be applied onto "green" concrete or over damp substrates. Remove any visible water prior to application. Once applied, Perm-A-Barrier Liquid membrane will not be affected by light rain showers.
Is Perm-A-Barrier Liquid compatible with spray applied polyurethane foam insulation?
Spray polyurethane foam insulation is compatible with Perm-A-Barrier Liquid membranes. It will adhere to Perm-A-Barrier Liquid when used as an exterior insulation in air and vapor barrier applications. Perm-A-Barrier Liquid membranes adhere well to cured polyurethane foam insulation.
How is Perm-A-Barrier membrane applied?
Perm-A-Barrier is a spray application material.
How long can Perm-A-Barrier Liquid be exposed to sunlight?
Perm-A-Barrier Liquid should be covered within 60 days after installation.
Perm-A-Barrier® Wall Flashing and Membrane Questions
How long can Perm-A-Barrier Wall Flashing and Membrane be exposed to sunlight?
Perm-A-Barrier Wall Flashing and Membrane should be covered within 30 days after installation.
What temperatures can Perm-A-Barrier Wall Flashing and Membrane withstand in the cavity of double wythe masonry?
The softening point of Perm-A-Barrier Wall Flashing and Membrane is between 82-93 °C (180-200 °F). Temperatures greater than this may cause the membrane to liquefy and drip.
Can Perm-A-Barrier Wall Flashing be applied over asphaltic dampproofing?
Perm-A-Barrier Wall Flashing can be applied over asphaltic dampproofing when fully cured. Priming may be necessary to enhance the adhesion.
Can Perm-A-Barrier Wall Flashing and Membrane be installed over EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer)?
Perm-A-Barrier Wall Flashing and Membrane should not be installed over EPDM. However, EPDM can be installed over Perm-A-Barrier Wall Flashing and Membrane.
Is metal drip edge required when using Perm-A-Barrier Wall Flashing?
Using a metal drip edge in conjunction with Perm-A-Barrier Wall Flashing would be a "belt and suspenders" detail, but is not necessary.
